Programs and Events Schedule

Friends of Creamer's Field provides an opportunity for community involvement through education programs, signature events, and guided interpretive nature walks. Our programs focus on the natural ecology of the refuge and the history of Creamer's Dairy.

All Programs are FREE  unless otherwise noted. Donations are appreciated.

FEB 22

Winter Track Walk 

Date & Time: Saturday, February 22 | TBA

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (Meet outside of the Farmhouse Visitor Center)

Description: Discover what animals are doing this winter! We invite you to join us for our Winter Track Walk on Saturday, February 22  to learn about animal movements and their tracks at Creamer's Field! Spend time at a short presentation at the barns, then walk with a naturalist to search for tracks. Dress for the weather! Kids are welcome with a chaperone. No dogs, please.

Kid's Exploration Walk

Description: Join Friends of Creamer's Field for a wintertime adventure walk for the kiddos!



APR 26

Spring Migration Celebration

Date & Time: Saturday, April 26 | 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge 

Description: Celebrate the coming of spring at the Spring Migration Celebration with the Friends of Creamer’s Field, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and more local outdoor organizations! This event is FREE to the public and will have fun for all ages! Activities include meeting local outdoor organizations, guided nature walks, wildlife viewing, and crafts for kids and families. Please dress for the weather and wear boots! 



JUNE 1 - AUG 31

Nature Walks (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Date & Time: June 1 - August 31, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays | 10:00 AM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (Meet outside the Farmhouse Visitor Center)

Description: Join a volunteer naturalist on a stroll around Creamer's Field. Learn about the ecology and history of the Refuge. Attendees can expect an hour-long walk. Please dress for the weather and conditions. Some areas of the Refuge can be "buggy". Binoculars and bug spray can be borrowed from the Farmhouse Visitor Center. If your group is larger than 5 people, please call 907-978-8457 ahead of time.




JUNE 22

Design Alaska Wild Arts Walk

Date & Time: Sunday, June 22 | 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge 

Description: Join the Friends of Creamer's Field for our 18th annual Design Alaska Wild Arts Walk. Walk the Creamer's Field trails amongst the birds and flowers beneath the warmth of the summer sun and immerse yourselves in artwork from over 30 local artists! They will be showcasing and selling art of all kinds. You can find that perfect artwork to take home or find gifts for friends and family. Choose from unique paintings, prints, pottery, photography, and more.

Watch local artists race against the clock to complete a masterpiece in only one hour at the Quick Draw Event, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Admission is $5.00 per person for 18+, 17 and under are FREE. Upon admission, each family receives a collector's edition Wild Arts Walk mug courtesy of Design Alaska! All proceeds go to support the Friends of Creamer's Field year-round educational programs and our wonderful local artists! 



JULY 20

Creamer's Dairy Day

Date & Time: Sunday, July 20 | 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge 

Description: This event is sure to be legen-dairy! Families and visitors can experience the history of the former dairy while playing fun games and activities, enjoying ice cream, learning all about agriculture and gardening in Alaska from local organizations, and joining in on a history tour!




AUG 18-24

Tanana Valley Sandhill Crane Festival

Date & Time: August 18-24 | All Week

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge & various 

Description: Birds of a feather flock together! Enjoy nature walks, bird and wildlife viewing, photography, workshops, kid’s activities, silent auction, food, a chance to win Alaska Airlines Tickets, and more! The festival schedule can be viewed here: Tanana Valley Sandhill Crane Festival

All events are FREE to the public and will be at Creamer’s Field unless otherwise stated. Donations are appreciated.

The festival is organized by the Friends of Creamer’s Field in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Alaska Songbird Institute, and the Arctic Audubon Society.

Creepy Critters

Date & Time: Saturday, October 18 | 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (Farmhouse Visitor Center)

Description: Join Friends of Creamer's for our Halloween program, Creepy Critters! Enjoy themed activities, crafts, and snacks. Costumes encouraged!




NOV 22

Thanksgiving for the Birds

Date & Time: Saturday, November 22 | 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (Farmhouse Visitor Center)

Description: Feed all your feathered friends this season! Join us for Thanksgiving for the Birds on Saturday, November 22! Make bird feeder crafts and learn about the winter birds in Alaska! This event will be FREE and FUN for all ages! Enjoy a hot beverage! Suggested donation of $5. Proceeds support our programs and events at the Refuge!




DEC 5 & 11

Holiday Craft Nights

Date & Time: Friday, December 5 and Thursday, December 11 | 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (Farmhouse Visitor Center)

Description: It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Join us for our Holiday Craft Night at the Farmhouse Visitor Center. Create marvelous holiday ornaments and seasonal cards. Free and fun for all ages! WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!




DEC 6

Luminary Trail

Date & Time: Saturday, December 6 | 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Location: Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge 

Description: Spend a lovely winter night under the stars with holiday lights and lanterns at Creamer’s Field! Enjoy the Luminary Trail, a nice wintertime stroll with the whole family along the 1/2-mile candlelit trail around the historic barn complex. Hot beverages and treats can be found inside the Farmhouse Visitor Center. Free and fun for all ages! Dress warm!
